Feline DNA Profiling is used to establish a secure, permanent ID for your cat to avoid potential disputes over identity, ownership, and/or the correct parentage.
Cat owners can collect DNA samples themselves quickly and painlessly using buccal (cheek) swabs, which collect loose skin cells. Cats can be tested at any age.
Once your samples arrive at our laboratory, the DNA testing process beings. Each sample is labeled individually and given a unique DNA ID number.
DDC's highly developed DNA extraction and testing methods using PCR and state-of-the-art genetic analyzers are applied. This is the same technology DDC uses for its human and canine applications.
Within 10 business days, we will email a Feline DNA Profile Report showing your cat's unique allele sizes.
Please note: DNA Profiling will NOT provide information about the breed make-up of a cat.
